Building Services Engineering design for the redevelopment of Ōpōtiki College complements the architectural upgrade by delivering integrated and sustainable solutions that reflect the cultural values and narratives of the kura, mana whenua, and the Te Whakatōhea community. Our engineering approach ensures the spaces are functional, efficient, and conducive to modern learning environments.
The engineering systems are designed to support four distinct outdoor learning catchments, interconnected by strategic buffer zones, while providing the infrastructure necessary for student success. HVAC, lighting, and electrical systems subtly acknowledge the natural environment, emphasizing energy efficiency and comfort aligned with the site’s unique features.
The services layout considers the flow and movement of the college, with careful integration to preserve connections to the local whenua and history. Water and drainage systems have been optimized to support sustainable practices, ensuring the campus remains resilient while honoring the cultural narratives tied to key locations such as Ōpape, Tirohanga, and Te Moana-a-Tairongo. This engineering response provides a foundation for students to thrive while staying connected to their whakapapa and community.
