The Gate Pā Community Centre is a multi-purpose facility is located adjacent to Anzac Park and is designed for the diverse community of Gate Pā, Tauranga. The simple yet elegant form offers shelter as it transitions from public to private, and interior to exterior; with intermediate spaces for people to gather and connect. The roof is a key element, allowing the building to respond to the residential context, larger scale of the park, and the community and civic nature of the building. This facility is an important asset for the Gate Pā community, and has been designed to welcome one and all, assisting young and old to “live their best lives” according to their goals and values.
